Independent journalism that starts where the story actually happens.
The stories that matter most are often not the loudest. They are the stories unfolding every day in the lives of ordinary people.
GroundLens is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit newsroom. We are independent and reader- and donor-supported — not owned by a corporation or political interest — so our reporting answers only to the communities we cover.
GroundLens was created to tell stories from the ground up. Too often, news coverage is shaped by official statements, political debates, corporate announcements, and headline numbers. While these are important, they do not always capture how major changes affect the people living through them.
Whether it is artificial intelligence, climate change, healthcare access, education, digital infrastructure, entrepreneurship, or economic transformation, the most important perspective is often missing: the perspective of the people whose lives are being changed.
GroundLens exists to fill that gap. We focus on authentic reporting rooted in firsthand experiences, local realities, and direct conversations with the people closest to the story. We believe the best journalism begins by listening before explaining.
The most valuable stories are not always found in government offices, corporate boardrooms, or television studios. They are found in villages adapting to climate pressures, classrooms preparing students for an uncertain future, hospitals serving underserved communities, farms adopting new technologies, entrepreneurs building businesses, and workers navigating rapid economic and technological change.
Our goal is to connect large global trends to the everyday lives of real people.
Across every topic, we ask the same question: How does this affect people's daily lives?
Firsthand reporting and local perspectives, not press releases.
Free of political, corporate, and ideological agendas.
Connecting large trends to the everyday lives of real people.
Driven by curiosity, transparency, and verifiable facts.
Understandable to a broad audience, not just specialists.
Focused on people rather than headlines alone.
GroundLens aims to become a trusted source of independent journalism that documents change as it is experienced by ordinary people. We begin in India, one of the world's most dynamic and rapidly changing societies, where technology, climate pressures, healthcare challenges, education needs, and economic transformation are reshaping daily life.
Over time, we will expand our reporting across Asia, bringing attention to stories, communities, and voices that are often overlooked in global conversations.
Tell authentic stories. Amplify overlooked voices. Help people understand the world through the experiences of those living it.
